Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Paint

Aston Martin Lagonda | St Athan, South Wales

Aston Martin is synonymous with luxury, performance, and craftsmanship. We are seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Paint to join our Manufacturing Engineering team at our state-of-the-art facility in St Athan. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the continuous improvement and future development of our paint manufacturing processes, helping to deliver the exceptional quality standards expected of every Aston Martin vehicle.

Working within the Manufacturing Engineering - Paint team, you will take responsibility for developing and optimising manufacturing processes, facilities, tooling, and layouts while supporting both current vehicle production and future model programmes. This is a hands-on role, offering a balance of shop floor and desk-based activities, with opportunities to lead projects, influence production strategies, and introduce innovative technologies within a world-class automotive environment.

You will be responsible for creating and maintaining detailed process documentation, including process operation sheets, visual standards, tooling requirements, safety information, and quality controls. Working closely with Production, Logistics, Facilities, Product Engineering, Health & Safety, and external suppliers, you will drive process improvements, resolve manufacturing issues, and ensure new product content is seamlessly integrated into production.

The role will involve supporting paint process optimisation across primer, basecoat, and clearcoat applications, investigating production concerns, implementing quality improvements, developing facility and station layouts, selecting appropriate tooling and fixtures, and contributing to future manufacturing concepts through Industry 4.0 and connected facility technologies. You will also provide technical support to key stakeholders, champion design-for-assembly principles, and represent Manufacturing Engineering within project and planning meetings.

We are looking for candidates who have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship and gained relevant experience within an automotive or aerospace manufacturing environment. You will have previous Manufacturing Engineering experience, a strong understanding of problem-solving methodologies, and the ability to analyse and interpret technical data to drive robust improvements. Experience within paint manufacturing processes and automotive production environments would be highly advantageous.

The successful candidate will hold a minimum ONC qualification in an engineering discipline, with an HNC or Degree preferred. Strong communication skills, the ability to influence stakeholders, project management capability, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement are essential.

This position offers standard working hours of 6:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Thursday and 6:30am to 11:30am Friday, although flexibility may be required to support production requirements. Due to the nature of the role, applicants should be comfortable working on the shop floor for extended periods and supporting operational activities outside standard hours when necessary.

If you are passionate about manufacturing excellence, process improvement, and helping to build some of the world's most desirable luxury performance vehicles, we would love to hear from you.
