Job purpose
The Commodity Owner will have holistic responsibility for deployment of ADAS components into Aston Martin vehicles. The role is responsible for both the installation and deployment of the hardware and the release of the software release of that Commodity. The remit of the role is broad, covering project planning, mechanical design installation, BOM management, supplier management, software releasing, manufacturing support and production issue resolution. Definition of specific software content and functionality is not within the scope of this role, but close interaction with ADAS feature owners and test teams will be a key part of coordinating the overall delivery of the Commodity.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Responsibility for ownership and delivery of ADAS commodity as defined by the Product Creation Process from initial programme gateway right though to customer car production
- Plan for correct installation of ADAS commodities into vehicle programmes:
- Define and maintain design guideline documents and hardpoints which characterise the installation requirements of the components.
- Close working with concept packaging and surface design functions to ensure the ADAS commodity attributes are achieved even against conflicting demands from other vehicle attributes.
- Guide the subsequent detailed mechanical and electrical installation of the requirements of the component. The component installation will typically be delivered by components not directly under the Commodity Owners responsibility, so will require definition and cascade of requirements, building relationships with those other component owners to ensure the attributes of the ADAS components are achieved.
- Own the quality and DFMEA documentation for the ADAS commodity, maintaining the DFMEA documentation and using this to guide the design and verification activities needed to ensure a right-first-time approach
- Plan component parts required (both type and numbers of) to support the different build phases of vehicles, from prototype and development vehicles through to production.
- Maintain the BOM for both the hardware and software elements of the commodity.
- Work with the Supplier and system developers to understand the timing plan for any relevant software releases. Ensure alignment of those software deliveries to key software integration milestones and communicate these within the business.
- Plan for volume build of the commodity, considering whether components are delivered pre-flashed with software or are updated internally.
- Define production requirements associated with the commodity, including any end-of-line calibration routines and other processes needed. Ensure that these are trialled in good time, and any issues resolved ahead of volume production.
- Resolve commodity-relevant issues identified during prototype builds, with appropriate level of testing in line with requirements and FMEA analysis
- Be the first point-of-contact for production issues relating to the commodity in build. Where these are physical installation or component issues, work to find a resolution to these. Where build issues relate to software behaviour, direct the system developers and Suppliers to understand route cause and find a solution.
- Support continuous process improvements and mentor more junior members of the ADAS/AD Hardware team.
