Mechanical Development Test Team is responsible for the testing and development work for all Powertrain Components (engine, drivetrain, cooling, air intake, fuel and exhaust) for all future/current powertrain layouts (ICE/EV/PHEV). It is responsible to ensure all components are tested to meet vehicle, system and component level targets, ensuring validation and verification.
Job purpose
Deliver rig and vehicle based thermal and cooling development and validation testing to support delivery of attribute, functionality and durability targets
Key duties and responsibilities
- Support Design team in cascading Vehicle Attribute / Durability Targets into system and component level targets
- Create and own component, system and vehicle DVP
- Plan and execute mechanical development / performance development testing
- Manage the commercial and financial aspects of the development testing programme
- Report out on testing progress and attribute / functionality / durability status to SET and wider business
- Lead problem solving investigation that occur during development programme
- Become integral part of vehicle team to follow integration of cooling system into the powertrain
- Work closely with build teams to ensure optimized instrumentation layout/requirements, validity and suitability of test asset, ensuring appropriate sign-off of vehicle prior to testing
- Work closely with virtual validation teams to guide analysis and correlation to test results
- Analysis and interpretation of physical test results to correlate simulation and validate design function
- Optimization and development of current test procedures and data analysis tools to ensure adequate validation in relation to vehicle, system and component level targets
- Develop close working relationships with all external partners
- Work closely with calibration team to ensure correct/reliable performance
- Support Thermal Management System SET Team as an active member
- Manage the internal and external resources required to deliver the DVP
- Support warranty / quality investigations
Experience and Qualifications
Essential experience
- Experience in vehicle testing
- Failure investigations and problem solving
- Managing and developing external engineering resource
- Driving optimization through analysis
- Close collaboration with design and simulation teams, understanding data analysis and design process
- Working across functional teams effectively to deliver viable design solutions
- Managed concern resolution
- Working within an OEM environment
- Prior demonstration of testing budget and timing management
Preferred experience
- Industry standard dyno and vehicle validation procedures
- Astute project control including resource planning, timing, milestones, and meeting disciplines
Essential education/ qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering Degreee or equivalent qualification, strong background in powertrain development
Preferred education/ qualifications
- Industry related courses – HV electrification safety awareness

- Strong technical skills and understanding of engineering fundamentals
- Creative thinking and problem-solving
- Ability to provide technical direction to the project design engineers
- Strong teamworking skills are required to ensure effective communication and collaboration across functional teams

Additional information
Proficient in office software (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
Proficient in INCA / AVL Concerto / Vector
Clean Driving License & ability to hold L3PG/L4 driving permit
Ability to travel to support engineering partners & suppliers (UK & worldwide) is essential
