The Continuous Improvement & Industrial Engineering department is responsible for driving operational efficiency, optimising labour and processes, and supporting data driven decision making across manufacturing. Through structured analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and a focus on lean principles, the team ensures sustainable improvements in productivity, quality, and cost performance in line with business objectives.
Job purpose
To identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and support quality and productivity across manufacturing operations. This role will deploy the Manufacturing Excellence & Continuous Improvement tool kit across our manufacturing shops to ensure that all deliverables are achieved.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Utilise MBO's library of instruments, such as work studies, constraint mapping, man assignment creation, spaghetti diagrams and make vs buy analyses acting as a Lean Facilitator to embed continuous improvement practices.
- Work from process sheets, engineering documentation, and supervisor instructions to carry out improvement activities on the shop floor.
- Act as a first responder, completing investigations, ensuring timely root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Lead cross functional investigations, driving robust and sustainable countermeasures to closure.
- Conduct production process audits using the AML BIQ format, identifying compliance gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Support initiatives that enhance quality, productivity, and process capability, aligned with business objectives.
- Play a key role during new model launches, from VP builds through to Job 1, supporting process development, parts layout, and readiness activities.
- Act as the voice of manufacturing, raising concerns early, evaluating process effectiveness, and highlighting potential risks or inefficiencies.
- Analyse DPV (Defects Per Vehicle) and AML Flags data to identify quality hotspots and trends, initiating immediate containment actions when needed.
- Support process trials, assisting in build tracking and analysis to validate improvements.
- Drive production and quality cost reduction through structured Kaizen activities, including detailed cost-benefit analysis and justification.
- Utilise Gap & Profile Build Data to support targeted continuous improvement efforts.
- Provide cross-site support as needed, with the flexibility to travel between locations to assist with launches, trials, or investigations.

Experience and qualifications
Essential experience
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment, ideally in a continuous improvement or industrial engineering role.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and waste reduction techniques.
- Experience conducting time studies, process audits, and root cause investigations.
- Proficient in data analysis tools and systems (e.g. DPV, AML Flags, Excel); CAD experience is desirable.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work process sheets.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands on approach to driving process improvements.
- Effective communicator with experience working cross-functionally across engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Flexibility to travel between sites as required.
- Relevant technical or engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience).
Preferred experience
- Computer literate advantageous
Preferred education/ qualifications
- NVQ in Engineering, Six Sigma/LEAN qualification would be advantageous
