Job purpose
The CAD Engineer – Chassis will be responsible for the detailed 3D design, packaging and integration of braking systems, wheel assemblies and tyre interfaces.
The role supports the Brakes, Wheels & Tyres team with the execution of 2D and 3D design to deliver releases according to vehicle program requirements and milestones.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Lead the conceptual design of suspension systems to ensure alignment with all K&C performance targets.
- Oversee the design and development of suspension and subframe components to meet L3 requirements, ensuring robust Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles are applied.
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to project engineers to enable the creation of high‑quality 2D engineering drawings for their respective components.
- Create, maintain and release 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for brake systems, wheels and tyre-related components (e.g. discs, callipers, pads, hoses, shields, wheel hubs, fasteners, wheel designs).
- Ensure robust packaging of components within vehicle architecture, considering kinematics, thermal performance, serviceability, manufacturability and styling constraints.
- Support concept, prototype and production phases, from early feasibility through to series release.
- Manage CAD data quality, configuration control and drawing standards in line with company processes.
- Support DFMEA, design reviews and engineering sign-off activities.
- Support tolerance analysis, GD&T application and design for manufacture/assembly (DFM/DFA).
- Work closely with Chassis, Suspension, Body, Electrical and Manufacturing teams to ensure optimal system integration.
- Support supplier engineering activities by reviewing and integrating supplier CAD data into the vehicle master model.
- Support program virtual deliveries with correct CAD maturity
Experience and qualifications
Essential experience
- Proven experience as a CAD Engineer within automotive chassis systems, ideally brakes, wheels and tyres.
- Strong proficiency in Siemens NX or equivalent automotive CAD toolset.
- Experience managing complex packaging and integration in a premium or performance vehicle environment.
- Understanding of brake system architecture, wheel and tyre interfaces, and relevant vehicle regulations.
- Experience working with suppliers and managing CAD data through full product lifecycle (concept to SOP).
- Knowledge of automotive drawing standards, GD&T, tolerance analysis and change management processes.
- Experience to set up nd maintain suspension kinematic models
Additional requirements
The requirement to work on-site 3 days a week as minimal. Flexibility on start and finish times due to events and different locations is required.
