Department overview:
The Cost Engineering team is responsible for setting & achieving vehicle material & investment cost targets. Providing detailed cost calculations for Piece & Tooling to the wider business, influencing technical solutions & design, to achieve profitable growth.
Job Purpose:
A primary support function to the business, providing target costs for all the new and existing vehicle projects utilizing expertise, logic & a robust data driven approach.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducting competitor benchmarking studies.
- Participating in Tear Down studies & costing exercise on key commodities or components.
- Creation of cost calculations of all responsible products for piece & tooling, to support cost target setting activities.
- Supporting Engineering to refine designs in a more cost-effective manufacturing process.
- Cost calculation to Quote evaluation – Where are the differences between the target and the quotation & why?
- Supporting the Procurement Department, on technical challenges, when discussing quotes with the vendors.
- Maintaining data accuracy during the product development and revising the cost calculation in-line with change/maturity
Qualification & Experience:
- Proficient level of IT skills, especially in the Microsoft Office suite, advanced Excel skills would be advantageous.
- Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering background.
- Broad Engineering & Manufacturing knowledge inclusive of component design.
- Solid understanding of a Vehicle architecture & its subsequent systems.
- Excellent problem analytical & critical thinking skills.
- Able to use CAD Reviewer Software – Siemens Teamcenter/VIS Mockup.
- Must have the ability to read a technical drawing.
