System Design Manager

Job Purpose: 

As System Design Manager (Motion Control), you will manage a team of skilled engineers designing the motion control system for the Motion Control contents, transforming the project requests into technical requirements and specifications for all the functions department of Motion Control. All powertrain ECU´s (engine, gearbox, fuel supply and CPC). This will later extend to other ECU´s.

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 

As the manager of system design, you will manage your team to:

  • Take the overall system responsibility of the Motion Control System Architecture in defining the functional configuration of each ECU within the scope of Motion Control
  • Transforming project requirement and system features into components and functional requirement.
  • Transform the functional plan and establish the deliverables for the team
  • Responsible to define the functional safety for all the Motion Control and guarantee the compliance according to the definition coming from the central FUSA Team.
  • Define the validation and testing plan in collaboration with the Validation &Testing Team.
  • Drive synergy across all of the vehicle platforms
  • Lead and support groups to develop generic technical requirement process including implementation and tracking plan of technical requirements.
  • Develop a mid- and long-term (for current and following year) a Resources and Competences Management Strategy collaborating with the other leaders within Motion Control and establish a clear Make vs Buy Strategy.
  • Establish talent management plans to attract, retain and develop critical skills, including knowledge transfer and mentoring programs for team.
  • Demonstrate engaged leadership, leading and motivating agile, diverse teams to solve difficult technical problems and perform with excellence;
  • Detect and react to project changes and escalate quickly and efficiently in critical situations
  • Assess capabilities of competitor products and technologies, identify and close technology gaps, and develop strategic mitigation plans for our competitive market space in coordination with the Lead Engineers.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to balance resource priorities across multiple projects
  • Collaborate strategically with business area and functional leadership and provide (relying on your technical expertise) good practice advisory service to other leaders in order to achieve overall business objectives.

Essential Experience:

  • Proven experience within AML or within an automotive vehicle manufacturer, supplier or consultancy, designing software and/or software architectures for automotive systems, and/or calibrating/tuning the vehicle
  • Significant knowledge in system architecture / network definition, and system integration for safety critical automotive applications
  • Proven experience in leading complex automotive projects
  • Deep understanding of System Engineering-based organisations.
  • Good experience in functional development.
  • Demonstrable experience with automotive processes and Norms Functional Safety (ISO2626), SUMS
  • Team Management, ideally working and coordinating multicultural teams

Preferred Experience: 

  • Proven experience within an automotive vehicle manufacturer, supplier or consultancy, designing software and/or software architectures for automotive systems, and/or calibrating/tuning the vehicle with a focus on drivability
  • Proven experience and deep knowledge in developing control systems for hybrid powertrains.
  • Significant knowledge in system architecture / network definition, and system integration for safety critical automotive applications
  • Hands-on experience with the Mathworks toolchain (e.g. Matlab & Simulink) and calibration and diagnostic tool (Inca, CRETA, eg…)
  • Demonstrable experience with Functional Safety (ISO2626)
